WEINHOLD LEGAL SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETES PARTICIPATION IN STUDY FOR THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION

At the end of last year, the European Commission approved the final version of the Study on the operation and impact of the Statute for a European Company (“Societas Europaea” - SE).
The Study provides an overview of the implementation of the Statute into national legislation in nearly all EU/EEA Member States, a summary and analytical report on the current status of creation, implementation and functionality of SEs as well as guidelines and suggestions concerning the need to amend the Statute for a European Company.
Weinhold Legal, one of the leading law firms on the Czech and Slovak legal markets, participated by covering the national legislation and the status of SE establishment in the Czech and Slovak Republics and by filling the role of co-ordinator on the Steering Committee with regard to the Central and Eastern European region.

Barbora Dubanská strengthens the Weinhold Legal team

Prague (2 November 2009) - Weinhold Legal strengthened its expertise in competition, finance and corporate law with the addition of attorney-at-law Barbora Dubanská. Barbora came to Weinhold Legal from the Prague office of Clifford Chance.
Barbora graduated with honours from the Law Faculty of Charles University in 2005 and later earned her doctorate. In 2008, she received her LL.M. degree in commercial and European law at the University of Cambridge.
As part of her Ph.D. studies, she attended the University of Queensland in Australia. In addition, she undertook a one-year study programme at the Law Faculty in Düsseldorf and spent one semester at the Law Faculty in Lisbon.
Barbora specialises in competition and commercial law. In addition, she also has experience in the area of. banking and finance law.
Apart from her native Czech, Barbora speaks English, German, French, Spanish and Portuguese.
WEINHOLD LEGAL ASSISTED SLOVAK STATE IN WINNING ARBITRATION WITH AUSTRIAN AIRLINES

Slovakia won the investment arbitration with Austrian Airlines relating to the aviation company Slovak Airlines. The Slovak state was in this case successfully represented by David A. Pawlak LL.C as the lead counsel and Weinhold Legal as the local counsel in this high profile international investment arbitration proceedings.
A threat that Slovakia may have to pay the Austrian aviation company Austrian Airlines a multi-million EUR award of damages has been removed. Austrian Airlines raised its claim on the basis of the Czechoslovak-Austrian investment protection treaty. The proceeding has been definitely stopped by the international arbitration court, as the Ministry of Finance in Slovakia announced.
The Slovak Ministry of Finance received the final award of the international arbitration court on 20 October 2009. The tribunal in the jurisdiction phase of the case decided fully in favor of the Slovak Republic and stopped the process.
Ivan Sagál – elected as member of the disciplinary committee of the Czech Bar Association

Prague (16 October 2009) - The 5th Assembly of the Czech Bar Association (ČAK) took place on October 16, 2009 at the Hotel Clarion in Prague where the bodies of the Association were elected.
In total, 1424 attorneys-at-law took part in the vote. In the voting, Mgr. Ivan Sagál, a partner at Weinhold Legal was elected as a member of the disciplinary committee of the Czech Bar Association. The disciplinary committee is made up of 3-person committees that are responsible for reviewing and negotiating disciplinary cases and in the event of disciplinary misconduct may impose fines and/or disciplinary measures.
